The Last Call at Midnight !
The clock on the wall struck twelve.
Outside, London was unusually quiet. A thin mist had settled over the streets, turning the glow of the streetlights into pale, blurred circles. Most of the houses were dark, and the occasional sound of a passing car disappeared almost as quickly as it arrived.
Emma Carter was alone in her flat.
She had just switched off the television when her phone rang.
12:00 AM.
She looked at the screen.
Emma hesitated before answering.
“Hello?”
For several seconds, there was nothing but silence.
Then came a faint voice.
“Emma… don't open the door.”
Her heart stopped.
“Who is this?”
The line went dead.
Emma stared at her phone.
A cold feeling crept through her.
Then—
Someone was standing outside her flat.
She froze.
Another three knocks followed.
“Emma?”
It was her neighbour's voice.
Mr. Wilson.
The elderly man who lived across the hall.
Emma moved quietly towards the door, but before she could reach it, her phone rang again.
The same unknown number.
She answered without speaking.
This time, the voice sounded frightened.
“Emma, listen carefully. Whatever happens, do not open the door.”
Emma swallowed.
“But… who's outside?”
A long silence followed.
Then the voice whispered:
“I'm outside your door.”
Emma's blood ran cold.
She slowly looked towards the entrance.
The knocking had stopped.
She stepped backwards.
“Who are you?” she whispered.
The caller answered:
“I'm the person who called you ten minutes ago.”
Emma frowned.
“That doesn't make sense. You called me just now.”
“No,” the voice replied. “Check your call history.”
Emma looked at the screen.
Her hands began to shake.
There were two incoming calls from the same unknown number.
The first call had come at 11:50 PM.
The second had come at midnight.
But Emma had been sitting alone since 11:30.
Then something even stranger caught her attention.
The first call lasted exactly thirty seconds.
The second call…
…was still connected.Emma slowly lifted the phone back to her ear.
“Who are you?”
The voice became barely audible.
“Emma… look through the window.”
She turned towards the living room window.
Across the street, beneath a flickering streetlamp, stood a man.
He was wearing a dark coat.
And he was staring directly at her flat.
Emma stepped closer to the glass.
The man raised his hand.
He was holding a phone.
Emma's phone suddenly displayed a new message.
DON'T LOOK BEHIND YOU.
Her breath caught in her throat.
Someone was standing behind her.
She could hear breathing.
Slow.
Quiet.
Close.
Emma closed her eyes.
The phone slipped from her hand and landed on the floor.
Then the lights went out.
For several seconds, there was complete darkness.
And then—
Knock. Knock. Knock.
This time, the sound came from inside the flat.
Emma screamed.
The emergency lights from the street outside briefly illuminated the room.
There was nobody there.
Only her phone.
She picked it up with trembling hands.
The call had ended.
A final message appeared on the screen.
“You should have listened.”
Emma stared at the words.
Then another message appeared.
“Check your front door.”
She slowly turned.
The door was still locked.
But underneath it, a small white envelope had been pushed into the hallway.
Emma opened the door just a few inches and pulled it inside.
There was a single photograph inside.
It was a photograph of Emma.
Standing in her living room.
Taken only moments earlier.
On the back, someone had written:
“Midnight was not the last call.”
Emma looked at the clock.
12:07 AM.
Her phone rang again.
This time, the caller ID wasn't unknown.
It was her own number.
She answered.
And heard her own voice whisper:
“Emma… don't turn around.”
She did.
And the story ends there.
The Mystery Continues...
Who was the person outside?
Why was Emma receiving calls from her own number?
And who took the photograph?
Sometimes, the most frightening stories begin with something completely ordinary—
a phone ringing at midnight.
